| Synopsis: |
The Committee was set up under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 to provide the Home Secretary with independent advice about the use of animals in scientific procedures. The Committee is required to give advice about the working of the Act and must take account of the legitimate requirements of science and industry and the protection of animals against avoidable suffering. During 2003, activities included giving the Home Office advice on three licence applications and publication of the Committee's reports on primates and on costs/benefit assessments made when evaluating project licence applications. Annexes include the Committee's code of conduct and details of Committee membership. |
