Double-bill of comedy movies. In the satirical comedy 'The Guru' (2002), Raimu Chandra Gupta (Jimi Mistry) arrives in New York from India with dreams. Having been brought up on a diet of Bollywood and Hollywood, Gupta's ambition is to become a big star as a dancer but finds things tough in the Big Apple. His first job is as a waiter in an Indian restaurant but his break comes when a party entertainer falls ill and Gupta fills in. There he meets a high society student (Marisa Tomei) who rests on every word he says and introduces him to the high society of New York. However, Gupta's lack of wisdom could be exposed at any point. In '40 Days and 40 Nights' (2001), after being dumped by his girlfriend, web designer Matt Sullivan (Josh Hartnett) begins to get panic attacks whenever he is about to have sex, and as a result decides to give it up for lent. His co-workers find this very amusing, and begin taking bets on whether Matt will be able to live up to his vow; something which proves especially difficult for the young man when he meets new girl Erica (Shannyn Sossamon) at the laundrette, and promptly falls for her. What will Erica think when she finds out about Matt's vow? And how will he fare when his ex-girlfriend decides to do her best to get him back? |
