Synopsis: |
The "Code of Safe Working Practices for Merchant Seamen" is intended primarily for merchant seamen on UK-registered vessels. Copies of the current edition of the Code must be carried on all UK ships other than fishing vessels and pleasure craft. A copy must be made available to any seaman in the ship who requests it, in accordance with the Merchant Shipping (Code of Safe Working Practices for Merchant Seamen) Regulations 1998.The updates include: advice on safe mooring arrangements for small domestic passenger craft and ships launches; latest guidance issued in Marine Guidance Note 322 (M+F) with regard to Ship Survey Standards; recommendations regarding hazardous substances made by the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) accident investigation report concerning the vessel Hilli; advice on towing, following an increase in the number of accidents; and advice on lifting following Merchant Shipping and Fishing Vessel (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment) Regulations 2006.The "Code" details the regulatory framework for health and safety on board ship, safety management and statutory duties underlying the advice in the "Code", and the areas that should be covered when introducing a new recruit to the safety procedures on board. All purchasers of the "Code of Safe Working Practices for Merchant Seamen" (ISBN 0115526129) are required to have Amendment 07, as well as Amendments 05 (ISBN 011552620X) and 06 (ISBN 0115527214, both of which are available below) to bring their copy up-to-date. |
