Synopsis: |
The report examines the management of land and buildings involved in the provision of health and social care services in Northern Ireland (known as the health estate) in order to address over-capacity. Findings include that, whilst the tasks of identifying and selling surplus assets are challenging and work is already underway in a number of key areas, there are a number of measures the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety and Health and Social Services (HSS) Trusts could take to get best value from the estate. These include: developing an integrated strategy for the disposal of surplus property which reconciles local strategies into a regional overview; strengthening accountability and exploring ways of reducing the cost and time taken to dispose of surplus property while achieving the best price from the sale. |
