Incidents involving rescue from road vehicles are dramatically increasing in frequency. There are some 3500 deaths on the road each year, with 35,000 serious injuries. Modern motor vehicles are becoming safer for occupants, due to advancement in technology, so persons are more likely to survive high impact speeds, but are also more likely to become entrapped. The Fire and Rescue Service, as the primary rescue service, requires national guidance to ensure a similar standard of response anywhere in the UK. This manual is designed to highlight current best practice with regard to vehicle rescue techniques and first responder trauma care.
