Synopsis: |
In its 2008 report on e-petitions ("HC 136", 1st report of session 2007-08, ISBN 9780215514479) the Committee recommended that the House of Commons should adopt a system of e-petitions to offer a simple, effective and transparent way for the public to tell the House and its members about what matters to them and to indicate the levels of support for their concerns. The Government initially issued a response accepting the recommendations, but a recent communication from the Government indicated a significant shift away from that position, raising concerns about the costs involved. This further report examines these concerns and calls on the Government to think again about this project. |
