Synopsis: |
This microfiche supplement to the "Film and Propaganda in America" series features various letters, used and unused scripts, and testimony on the various films produced by America'a propaganda mill during World War II and the immediate post-war period, the Korean War, the Cold War and Vietnam. The wartime films of Frank Capra and Walt Disney, and the effect of government and military policies on them, are highlights of the sections on World War II film propaganda. Much of this supplement concerns itself with an ideological foe, communism, and the danger of possible Soviet penetration of American institutions. The recent collapse of communism is a reason for looking again at all American information policies and programmes after 1945, with the ability now to see how much these are the products of a particular moment in history. Those using these documents will be able to bring to their interpretation a fresh sense of clarity as to their meaning and value. |
