Synopsis: |
This book contributes to better understanding ethnic media from the African diaspora in England. Previous research on minority media in the United Kingdom has marginalized and sometimes overlooked the contributions of the media outlets for African diasporas to the mainstream public sphere. Consequently, we have little understanding of the production practices within their media outlets and the reception of content by the African diasporic audiences. It studies the proliferation of African diasporas across media platforms in the UK along with an increase in diasporic populations from 400,000 in 2001 to an estimated 1 million today. The book encompasses an organizational approach using empirical data collected through ethnographic interviews, statistics, surveys, focus groups, and other relevant public records and published documents. Research in this book will be useful to scholars in media studies, journalism, sociology, the humanities, and those who study the African diaspora. |
