Synopsis: |
The ability of hormones to modulate brain function is well known; recent research has demonstrated that hormones can actually alter brain structure. Research in the 1970s and 1980s documented that hormones establish sexual dimorphisms in brain structure but these effects were believed to be limited to sensitive periods during development. In contrast, recent studies are presented here which show that changes in hormone levels affect the structure of the adult brain. This book is of interest to both basic and clinical researchers. |
