Description: |
After Katrina, New Orleanians ponder their city's fate in this mournful and at times celebratory jazz-funeral anthology. |
Synopsis: |
First two editions have done very well in greater New Orleans area, selling close to 8,000 copies. Paperback edition to feature new cover Contributors include well-known investigative journalist Jason Berry (Render Unto Rome, Vows of Silence) and popular author Toni McGee Causey (the Bobby Faye trilogy for St Martin's). Reproduction of 19th Century prints of New Orleans and high-end design give the book gift appeal. Previous editions have sold well at the Louis Armstrong International Airport. Potential sales at Jazz Fest. Because book was written immediately after Katrina hit the city, the book has an immediacy and emotion other post-Katrina books lack. Potential for college course adoption as people begin to study Katrina and its aftermath. (Book has been on syllabi at NYU, Tulane, UNO.) Paperback design will link it to the 2010 Where We Know: New Orleans as Home. Chin Music Press plans to offer boxes to put the two books together as a box set at stores that have supported the book over the years (Octavia Books, Maple Street Books, Garden District Books, etc.) Contributors include active bloggers Colleen Mondor (Chasing Ray, Bookslut), Ray Shea (Ray in Exile) and Sarah Inman (Nolafugees). |
