One of the ten newest members of the EU, Estonia joined in 2004. It is hoped that the EU will spark improvements in the country and its economy. It has a population of 1,300,000. The ethnic groups include: Estonian 68 per cent, Russian 26 per cent, Ukrainian 2 per cent, and others 4 per cent. Its exports include: machinery and equipment, wood and paper, textiles, food products, furniture, metals, and chemicals. Its EU Export Partners are: Finland, Sweden, UK, Latvia, Germany, and Lithuania. Its imports cover: machinery and equipment, chemicals, textiles, foodstuffs, and transportation equipment. Its EU Import Partners are: Finland, Germany, and Sweden. |
