Synopsis: |
The United States' justice system was brought into existence with the creation of the "Constitution of the United States" in 1787. The judiciary branch is a fundamental part of government: it is one of three branches (the others are the executive and the legislative) created to check and balance each other and prevent either one from gaining too much power and influence. "The United States Constitution" replaced the "Articles of Confederation", which gave a great deal of power to each state. "The Constitution" created a federal government designed to balance the necessity for the states to work together with their rights for independence and autonomy. While the legislative branch creates the law, and the executive branch enforces the law, day to day, the law is put into practice by the justice system. "The U.S. Justice System" includes: famous landmark cases and their implications for U.S. law; a clear outline of the development of the "Constitution" and the "Bill of Rights"; how the "Constitution" is put into practice by the FBI, state justice systems, law enforcement bodies, and the trial system; and, how the law is applied on points of immigration naturalization, and extradition. |
