Synopsis: |
This second edition of Multiple Choice Questions has been modernised, matching the questions to the common problems which underpin clinical practice. This book is aimed at medical undergraduates, postgraduate trainees for primary care, those still in trianing whose career path is as yet unclear, and any health worker wanting to review their factual knowledge. Part I deals with multiple choice questions true/false questions (MCQs) based on the planned core clinical curriculum of a modern medical course. Part II explores extended matching questions (EMQs). This section gives the student an idea of the range of EMQs encountered in examinations today. This book is for anyone wanting to review their factual knowledge of the core content of a medical course. It is clinical in its focus, is particularly suitable for medical students, and has been planned using the systems approach from the curriculum of one modern medical school in the UK (University of East Anglia). It uses the time-honoured multiple choice true/false question approach, but also shows examples of the extended matching question, now increasingly common in postgraduate as well as undergraduate assessments. It covers over two hundred different topics, and allows you to self test, or for others to test you. The range of knowledge in medicine is huge, and few clinical situations allow the simplicity of a yes/no factual answer - many readers will no doubt dispute some of the answers given here in the light of other reading and their own experiences. But without core knowledge of simple facts, we cannot begin to practice medicine at a more complex level, or to serve our patients effectively. This book will allow you to assess whether you have the range of basic knowledge needed to support the complex decisions you will need to take in formal examinations and in your future clinical practice. If you can get a 70 per cent+ score here you probably know all the things that we have not had space to ask about - if you don't, read round the topics and try again! |
