Synopsis: |
South Australia has a long tradition of law reform. In its early days, the colony was responsible for a number of legal innovations that have spread across Australia, and, in some cases, the world. In this book Dr Greg Taylor examines the origins and effects on the law of six of these early innovations, including the Torrens system of lands title registration, now used in many lands; the recognition of Aboriginal customary law at the urging of a grand jury; associations incorporation legislation; a statute permitting accused people to give evidence; legislation permitting people to sue governments; and an important procedural reform. Dr Greg Taylor is a senior lecturer in Law at Monash University. |
