Synopsis: |
The Best of the BLR will include pieces by Rick Moody, David Lehman, Abraham Verghese, Floyd Skloot, Julia Alvarez, Rafael Campo, Rachel Hadas, Caroline Leavitt, Hollis Seamon, David Watts, Alicia Ostriker, Roy Jacobstein, along with prize-winning stories, essays, and poems by emerging writers. A free Reader's/Study Guide will be available online. Over the first 6 years of its existence, the BLR has grown enormously: it receives over 2500 submissions per year, and the number of subscribers has just about tripled to about 2000. The Best of the Bellevue Literary Review represents multiple perspectives: doctors, nurses, patients, and others who write about illness and health, and life and death issues. "The Bellevue Literary Review is the first literary magazine to arise from a medical center. While the medical community has many technical journals that deal with illness and health, the BLR is the first publication that uses the power of literature to focus on these themes. This draws a wide spectrum of readers, from all walks of life, who are attracted to the absorbing and thought-provoking readings that touch upon the broader pallet of human vulnerabilities. |
