Die meisten Umwelt-Noxen sind "schwache Wirkungen", d.h. sie losen nur im Verbund mit anderen Noxen, also Co-faktoren, Krankheit aus. Das Kennzeichen "schwache Wirkungen" ist, dass die grosse Mehrzahl der Menschen, die einer solchen Wirkung ausgesetzt sind, gesund bleiben. In Fall-Kontroll-Studien ist ihr Einfluss meist an nicht oder schwach signifikanten Korrelationen zwischen Wirkung und Krankheit nachweisbar. Verschiedene Umwelt-Noxen konkurrieren miteinander im Einfluss auf die Sterblichkeit und konnen sich als Todesursache wechselseitig vertreten, ohne dass eine solche Noxe allein die Gesamtsterblichkeit steigert. Der Befund, der sich in vielen Sterblichkeitsdaten dokumentiert findet, hat grosse Bedeutung fur die Umweltdebatte, da nicht alle Umwelteinflusse auch die Gesamtsterblichkeit erhohen. |
