Gruppentheoretische Methoden haben in der Behandlung von Mole kulschwingungen mehr und mehr Bedeutung gewonnen. Eine Darstellung, die dem Physiker und Physikochemiker nicht nur die Rezepte gibt, sondern auch die Grundlagen systematisch vermittelt, die fur fruchtbare selbstiindige Anwendung notwendig sind, scheint abel' zu fehlen. Das vorliegende Buch versucht diese Lucke nicht nur fUr den fertigen For scher, sondern auch fUr den fortgeschrittenen Studenten auszufiHlen. Es vermittelt nicht so sehr Ergebnisse als eine Methode. Die Gruppentheorie wird als mathematische Hilfsdisziplin behandelt, nicht um ihrer selbst willen. Es ist daher nul' das gebracht, was zur Behandlung der Molekulschwingungen notwendig ist, abel' auch mog lichst alles was dazu gehort. Trotz diesel' Beschriinkung kann abel' auch del' allgemeine Physiker wenigstens eine Einfuhrung in die Grund gedanken del' Gruppentheorie erhalten, auf del' weitergehende Studien fUr andere Anwendungen aufbauen konnen. Neben den endlichen Sym metriegruppen sind auch Raum-und Liniengruppen behandelt worden, soweit ihre Berucksichtigung fUr das Problem von Kristallspektren von Bedeutung erscheint. Empirische Ergebnisse sind dort herangezogen worden, wo es sich um die Abgrenzung del' Anwendungsmoglichkeiten handelt. |
