This volume focuses on the mechanism of neuronal cell death, the fundamental pathology in neurodegenerative disorders. In an attempt to understand the pathophysiology of, and potential neuroprotective treatment for, these disorders, this collection examines the role of molecular, as well as cellular, events believed to occur in the process of cell death. The papers are organized into four parts: Part One examines genetic, growth and environmental factors in neurodegenerative disorders including Alzheimer's Disease and Parkinson's Disease; Part Two discusses the role of metals and free radicals in neurotoxicity. Part Three examines neurodegeneration resulting from malfunctioning processes of energy metabolism; and Part Four presents papers on special topics in neurodegeneration. |
