Synopsis: |
Satoshi Okada (born Hyogo, 1962) qualified in architecture in 1989 at Columbia University in New York and has been responsible for various projects which mark him as one of the greatest designers of recent generations, and not only in Japan. His single-family houses, in particular, many of which were built on very small lots of urban land, are strikingly simple, yet have a severe elegance, characteristics which re-appear in works like the houses in the prefectures of Kanagawa, Shizuoka and Yamanashi, as well as in Tokyo and on Mount Fuji. Since the late 1990s, Okada has also tackled large-scale themes like the complex for the Millennium Park in the prefecture of Chiba, a dental clinic in Sendai, and the agricultural center at Takashima, confirming his vocation of interpreting design as an rigorous exercise |
