| Description: |
A triple-bill of films from the acclaimed Japanese director. In 'Blackmail Is My Life' (1968), a young Yakuza member works his way up through the ranks using his tried and tested blackmail scams. Addicted to his new racy lifestyle, he bites off more than he can chew when he targets the business associates of a rival gang boss. In 'Black Rose Mansion' (1969), female impersonator Ryuko (Akihiro Maruyama) is a favourite among the clientele at the Black Rose Mansion where she sings. Catching the eye of the club's owner (Eitaro Ozawa), Ryuko's life soon starts to get complicated, when her obsessional past lovers begin to appear, bringing violence in their wake. Finally, in 'If You Were Young' (1970), a group of young men try to make a life for themselves in post-war Japan. Hitting on a plan, they decide to work together to save for a dumper truck, becoming independent contractors, thereby guaranteeing themselves a future. But their well-intentioned plans soon collide with the harsh realities of post-war Japanese life. |
