Description: |
Three silent adventures starring legendary swashbuckler Douglas Fairbanks. 'The Thief of Baghdad' (1924) tells the tale of a young thief who sets out to win the heart of a beautiful princess. With his impressive acrobatic skills and the assistance of some imaginative special effects, the thief determines to prove himself worthy of his royal sweetheart, and embarks on an adventure which takes him through the Valley of Fire, the Vale of Dragons, the Cavern of the Enchanted Trees, and the Abode of the Winged Horse. But opposition comes in the form of an evil Mongol prince, who tries to trick the thief using information gathered by his slave-girl spy, and who will stop at nothing in his attempts to make the princess his bride. 'The Iron Mask' (1929), the last silent film to star Douglas Fairbanks, was originally released a sequel to the 1921 swashbuckler 'The Three Musketeers'. When King Louis XIII's wife gives birth to a crown Prince of France, everybody rejoices over the arrival of an heir - but nobody suspects that there are actually two of them. Cardinal Richelieu (Nigel de Brulier) secretly sends the unwanted twin away to Spain, but Count de Rochefort (Ullrich Haupt) hatches a nefarious plot to exchange the twins and thereby make himself the most powerful man in France. Fairbanks stars in 'The Black Prince' (1926) as a nobleman who seeks revenge for the murder of his father at the hands of pirates. Acting in character as The Black Pirate, he infiltrates the pirate band and is instrumental in the capture of a ship. However, things become complicated when he discovers a young woman on board whom he wishes to protect from the threat of rape. |
