Synopsis: |
"Short Changed" provides a pathfinding analysis of the impact of economic policies on women. The book sets out to demystify economics and to demonstrate that the state and mainstream economic theory are gender blind but not gender neutral. Combining an analysis of economic theory with three case studies of policy in practice, it explores the ways in which economic policies reinforce the economic subordination of women. The authors also ask whether governments can play a progressive role in women's struggle for equality. The book is aimed at students, policy-makers, teachers in econimcs and women's studies. "Both authors have been involved for a number of years in the development and teaching of courses on economics, gender and work. Rhonda Sharp has also worked in government on women's economic policy, while Ray Broomhill also has extensive experience in the field of trade union education.". |
