Synopsis: |
The Public Lending Right scheme was established in the UK by the Public Lending Right Act 1979, as an intellectual property right entirely separate from copyright. This scheme gives eligible authors whose books are held in public lending libraries a right to receive monetary payment out of a central government fund. The level of payment is calculated by reference to the number of occasions on which their books are borrowed from a representative sample of public libraries. This annual report by the Public Lending Right Office sets out details of its activities, the working of the PLR scheme, and the annual accounts for the period April 2006 to March 2007. |
