Synopsis: |
This statistical bulletin reports information about permanent exclusions from maintained schools in England in the school years 1995-96 to 1998-99. The figures are derived from the Annual Schools Census. Some of the key facts are: the proportion of all exclusions in each type of school has changed very little over four years - 83 per cent are from secondary schools, 13 per cent from primary schools and 4 per cent from special schools; the proportion of children aged 14 excluded from school is the highest; exclusion was least common in the primary age range and the first year of secondary school; and 83 per cent of all permanent exclusions were boys. |
