This is an overview of the current use of Geographic Information Systems in Government from analysis of a survey undertaken by CCTA. The survey, which assesses the current usage of GIS in government, questioned 117 central government departments. The analysis covers makes and category of hardware; which GIS software packages are used; the degree of customization undertaken; what the systems are used for, and more. The survey also analyzes the use of digital geographic data sets, both commercial and non-commercial across government, and looks at opportunities for sharing geographical digital data. |
