The contributors explore the impact of war on early feminist thought and activism, covering key topics including the interpretation of a specifically 'womanly' response to the war, women's relationship with the state and with the nation, the status of women's wartime service, women's role as mothers in wartime, women's suffrage, peace and the aftermath of war, and women's guilt and responsibility.
