These pieces have also been composed in the light of the Gospels, and many of them make explicit use of their material. The Gospels suggests that Jesus went against the grain of his society by granting as much honour to women as to men, and the author has made careful efforts in this collection to give women their due. Relishing the room the Gospel stories leave for the imagination, he takes full advantage of it. |
