Synopsis: |
This major new resource has been prepared to help librarians with the frequent requests from students who have assignments that include finding ethnic and international recipes. This five-volume cookbook set is directly related to the middle school and high school multicultural curricula. It will be the source to turn to for multicultural, immigration, and foreign language units. "The World Cookbook for Students" fills a demand for more and different recipes for all, not just selected, countries and ethnic groups. Although there are many cookbooks, and many recipes are available on the Internet, no in-print sets or series match the scope, depth, and authority of this set. The volumes are organized alphabetically by country name; if separate groups or regions are covered within the country, the material is under the group/region name alphabetically. Each country includes a brief introduction and then an overview of the type of foodstuffs, cuisine, and style of eating - in a simple bulleted list. Approximately five recipes are provided per country/ethnic group for typical dishes and holiday fare, for a total of approximately 1,500. Each recipe is introduced and contextualized.Short glossary sidebars are interspersed. Other elements include thumbnail maps and illustrations, an introduction to the set, an annotated select bibliography with print and online resources, an appendix with a list of recipes by region/country/group, and a set index in each volume. |
