Synopsis: |
Combining moral and political passion with philosophical reflection, this selection of essays, written over the last 15 years, represents a continuous and developing work which integrates philosophical (abstract) and political (concrete) concerns. Although not always explicit, the perspective elaborated in and through these essays draws on an extensive knowledge of and familiarity with 20th-century European philosophy, and especially the phenomenology of Maurice Merleau-Ponty, the ethical and political writings of Jean-Paul Sartre, and the deconstructive project of Jacques Derrida. The different essays draw on these philosophies in the exploration and analysis of issues and arguments of contemporary cultural concern: science, rationality, sex, violence, representation, ethics, politics and spirituality. Each essay was originally written as an intervention in debates on these questions current at the time of writing. |
