Description: This text supplies the whole case law of England, together with a considerable body of cases from the courts of Scotland, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, other Commonwealth countries, and the European Communities.
Synopsis: "The Digest" supplies the whole case law of England, together with a considerable body of cases from the courts of Scotland, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, other Commonwealth countries, and the European Communities. Altogether it contains summaries of nearly half a million cases, representing over a thousand different series of law reports. "The Digest" supplies case law with annotations giving the subsequent cases in which judicial opinions have been expressed in the English courts. The judicial history and present authority of a case can thus be seen at a glance. Every case is summarized, arranged, numbered, indexed and cross-referenced for instant identification. The scheme of arrangement and classification of titles and sub-titles is as close as possible to that adopted in "Halsbury's Laws of England" - cases are grouped by subject area and presented chronologically. Commonwealth cases are easily distinguished from English decisions by the use of different typefaces, and both in the text and the tables the country of origin of the case is shown. The table of contents at the beginning of each title shows how the cases have been arranged and gives the reader a guide to the scope and subject matter of the title. Bold section headings and cross-references are provided throughout the work to help the user find information he needs quickly and easily. All the volumes have their own table of cases and these have been consolidated to provide a three-volume consolidated table of cases. There is also a consolidated index. The new case law in the English, European and Commonwealth courts reported each year is taken into account in the Annual Cumulative Supplement which keeps the volumes up-to-date. These cases are subsequently incorporated into the main work by means of Continuation Volumes which are of a permanent nature and are fully cross-referenced to the volumes of "The Digest". New volumes are continually being issued to replace existing volumes. They incorporate all material to date, including that formerly contained in the Continuation Volumes, and the Annual Cumulative Supplement. "The Digest" provides a complete, comprehensive guide and index to reported cases. It supplies a concise statement of the effect of each reported case and enables the user to know where to look and what to expect to find when the report itself is examined in full.
