Description: |
The result of collaboration between managers, consultants and academics from capitalist and post-socialist economies, this book offers the reader insights into the complex issue of corporate governance. |
Synopsis: |
Corporate governance has been the focus of much recent debate. A concept describing the control mechanisms by which any system sustains itself, it applies to governments as much as to corporate enterprises. Nowhere is this more central than in the post-socialist economies of the East, where both governments and enterprises have undergone structural transformation. The complexities of governance in the socialist enterprise are not well understood by prospective investors in post-socialist economies, while the governance of western economics is equally opaque to the post-socialist managers responsible for promoting reform. This book is designed to sensitize managers, Eastern and Western, to the kind of governance issue they will face when working together. A feature of the book is that it represents those who have worked on both sides of the former ideological divide. The dialogue took place at a round table held in Warsaw by the Centre for Organizational Studies (COS). Focusing on the case of a local Polish company, the round table discussions apply a wide variety of professional experience to some of the central problems of East-West business enterprise. |
