The Muirhead Library of Philosophy was a crucial landmark in the history of modern philosophy and represents a salutary example of commitment to the most important philosophical themes, regardless of methodology or approach. It refused to be swayed by the philosophical fashion of the day and defied classification into 'analytic' or 'continental' camps, foreshadowing the major questioning of this division happening in philosophy today. Consequently, it was to publish some of the most influential yet diverse philosophers of the twentieth century, including Bernard Bosanquet, F.H. Bradley, Edmund Husserl, Henri Bergson and G.E.
