Every church has a staff. Some have a solo pastor, who directs a team of lay volunteers. Some have several pastors, who direct teams of lay volunteers. Sometimes in the doing of the ministry or in the meetings about what to do, the team spirit lags. The energy and passion dissipate. The boredom of routine overwhelms the mission of the team. The staff members forget to take care of themselves or they take one another for granted. William J. Carter helps church leaders diagnose these ailments with several diagnostic tools. His treatment is a fresh examination and affirmation of the spiritual gifts that the church staff has in its midst. First he shows how the first church staff emerged in New Testament times. Then he explains how a church staff functions as the Body of Christ and how Christ rebuilds the foundations of a church staff so that it is always thirsting for God's will and seeking spiritual nourishment.
