Synopsis: |
The agrarian question is central to the economic analysis of poor countries. In this inaugural lecture the author has chosen political economy as an approriate method for the analysis of the problems of economic development in the world, with particular emphasis on India. The author has been involved in the pursuit of a comparative and historical political economy, which seeks to clarify the nature of the contemporary agrarian question and to illuminate the possible manner of its resolution, in diverse contemporary settings, by examining instances of its successful resolution in the past. This lecture highlights some of these problems and possible resolutions. |
