The jurist-theologian Mawardi (d. 1058) was the first Muslim scholar to study systematically the relationship between Islamic revelation and political thought. His classic work on the Caliphate is the basis of all subsequent writings on the topic and even today is used in the framing of Islamic constitutions. In this book, Hanna Mikhail explains the importance of Mawardi's writings and gives a fresh interpretation of the man and his thought, including a full bibliography of his works. This study of Islamic political thought relates Mawardi to his Muslim predecessors and successors. |
