Synopsis: |
Michael Jack Schmidt led the Philadelphia Phillies to five National League championship series and two World Series. Twelve times an All-Star, Schmidt was perhaps baseball's premier power hitter during the 1970s and 1980s. He was also exceptional in the field, winning ten Gold Gloves. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1995, his first year of eligibility. This is an account of Schmidt's celebrated career with the Phillies. Concentrating on newspaper accounts, periodicals, biographies by Schmidt's team mates and baseball histories, this work is the story of one of the game's great sluggers, heroes and role models. |
