Description: |
Aiming to help librarians better understand and implement the 1988 Revision of the Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, this work discusses the origins of the Revision, delineates its contents and explores the future of the AACR. |
Synopsis: |
Following the publication of the second edition of Anglo-American Cataloging Rules in 1989, the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS) presented a series of regional institutes developed to help librarians better understand and implement the 1988 rule revisions. "Origins, Content and Future" is based on the materials presented at the institutes. The papers are presented in three parts; the first part discusses the origins of the 1988 Revision, the second delineates the contents of the revision. The third part is a symposium on the future of the AACR featuring a visionary contribution from Michael Gorman, editor of AACR2. Assembled to make these interpretations available to all library professionals and students, this work aims to help everyone who needs to better understand and utilize AACR2. |
