Synopsis: |
The fourth book in a series in which the New Zealand Institute of Institute Affairs has commissioned authors to survey selected aspects of New Zealand's foreign relations over designated periods since World War II. This survey of the 1990-2005 period has a readily stated objective: to provide a fair and accurate record of the most compelling international preoccupations confronting New Zealand, the manner in which they were officially handled and, as importantly, an assessment of the extent to which those challenges were effectively interpreted and acted upon. Never easy, this assignation's complexity has increased in a world where the boundaries between domestic and foreign concerns are often indistinct, and where New Zealand has belied its small size, remoteness and insularity by engaging across a diverse, interconnected range of international policy concerns, problems and interests.
