Ceilidhe (pronounced Kaylee) is an Irish/Scottish word meaning "getting together". In Ireland the Ceilidhe is a mixture of dance, music, song, story-telling etc, which usually takes place in the pub or church hall. It is the "getting Together" of everyone, and everyone takes part, so that if you are a dancer, you can contribute to the festivities by singing a song, playing a tune or telling a story, and it is very important that everyone attending the Ceilidhe takes part and is fully involved in the event. The word Ceilidhe in England is an alternative word for a barn dance, and is a "getting together" of people who want to dance, and does not usually involve singing, playing or story-telling.
