Synopsis: |
Hidden in their mysterious lands within the spectacular landscape of Southern Africa, Oglins are heart-warming little beings that live in deep harmony with the land and all of its creatures. Yet that harmony is threatened. The gentle Oglins are not immune to the spreading deserts and waning wildlife of the world beyond. Thus, they are called upon by their Great Spirits to choose two brave emissaries to embark upon a Great Journey to discover both the cause of and cure for the land's decline. Young Baylin of the Vadiera Clan and Lafina of the Pinnacles Clan, are chosen for this daunting quest: to travel the far reaches of Africa to the dwelling place of the Great Spirit. Given the miraculous ability to communicate with animals, the bold travellers encounter and learn from the wild creatures and African natives. From the world travelling whale, to the desert tortoise, dainty duiker and audacious dung beetle, from cheeky orphan elephants to the elegant eland and a mysterious Bushman family, from sleek cheetah to giant gorillas and a stealthy, "smiling" crocodile, each in turn enhance the young Oglins' understanding of the land and the life that depends upon it.Through their adventures, Baylin and Lafina learn the keys to a healthy balance for all of life. This captivating tale, a classic hero's journey across a vast and dangerous land draws readers into a mythical world whose endearing creatures call us to reclaim the health and longevity of our own world. Most importantly, they learn that there is still time, and still a chance, to restore the land and to share their story with others as they head bravely "towards the tomorrows". |
