Description: This book studies the reactions of India, Brazil, and South Africa - the three main non-proliferation actors of the Global South - to Iran's nuclear program. Their responses are explained and situated in wider foreign policy context.
Synopsis: While the Iranian nuclear programme has attracted the attention of the international community and has been dealt with in various international forums, analyses of the responses so far have been largely limited to the study of Western countries. Studying the responses of India, Brazil, and South Africa to Iran's nuclear programme entails analysis of the foreign policies of the countries of the Global South. Neither Iran's nuclear program nor the international response were deemed insignificant by the Global South, and the emerging powers took particular interest. The resulting dispute combined three great avenues for action - nuclear politics, economic interests, and a welcome opportunity to position themselves in international politics on the eve of twenty-first century. Policy towards Iran has become entangled with policy towards the international community and its tools.
