Synopsis: |
Reuben A Torrey was a forerunner for the great evangelists that came after him. Born in 1856, as a young man he helped to found Moody Bible Institute. Preaching as a traveling evangelist through the middle of his life, he wrote many books and fueled the fire of revival all over America and England. Settling down finally in Los Angeles, he founded Biola University and the Church of the Open Door. This book, How To Pray, is considered a little known classic of Spiritual literature. Very different from the mystical authors of this same genre, Torrey writes in a pragmatic and direct style. This book is an inspired masterpiece calling the church out of its slumber and indifference and to a posture of power in prayer. This book calls us, in absolute terms, to a life dedicated to God in prayer. This book exhorts us, with unequivocal and fiery language, to get down on our knees before God every day. This book teaches us, with absolute certainty, how to change the world with the power of prayer. |
