Synopsis: |
There is one benefit money cannot buy in 19th century Jamaica - respect. Ned is a free coloured who finds himself suffering from discrimination because of the shade of his skin. Using his wealth to try to fight the legal and social barriers erected against members of his race he comes into conflict with his white relatives. However his black family members grow wary of their oppression on the accursed plantation of Glenn Hall. With the slave trade abolished, its sombre shadow continues to stalk the land, calling forth an age of decadence and depravity as the sugar colonies decline - revolt is no longer a whimsical idea. This story is the fourth and final instalment of 'The Curse of Glenn Hall' saga. The first three books in the series are 'War and Piracy', 'A Man And A Brother', and 'The Planter's Chain'. |
