Synopsis: |
Patrick McNeill is the son of a Lincolnshire police officer. The Lincolnshire Police Authority employed him from 1958 to 1992. A Policeman's Tale tells the story of Patrick's life leading up to and through those years working for the police in the green and rural county of Lincolnshire. They were years that saw considerable changes in the lifestyle of the people of the county and in the system of policing. The story begins early in the Second World War and goes through to the second millennium, charting boyhood, schooldays, and working life. It includes something about the author's family and friends and a good deal about police work. A Policeman's Tale attempts to give a very personal taste of the routine nature of life in the police as well as the ups and downs, especially where something funny happened. |
