Synopsis: |
This affordable and versatile program was developed in the mid-1990s for parents of aggressive and noncompliant children. However, the program has also been used with parents involved with child protective services, mothers who have experienced spousal abuse, and parents interested in learning more about child development. It is designed as a 20-week program covering the same ten social and emotional topics as the book "Pathways to Competence: Encouraging Healthy Social and Emotional Development in Young Children". The program manual includes instructions for conducting the sessions, handouts for parents, and suggested activities. The CD-ROM contains a sample brochure, sample advertisement, attendance sheet, parent consent and childcare registration form, childcare questionnaires, diagrams of four parenting roles, competency cards, parent certification form, and certificate of completion. The book "Pathways to Competence" was written after studies had been conducted on the success of this parenting program. It is strongly recommended that program leaders use this book as a reference. |
