This edition builds upon the 1998 edition by adding 140 new topics. Of these, 39 were newly commissioned, either replacing older topics with new information, or discussing new and emerging concerns. The set also contains a new feature: "In the News" sidebars that evaluate media stories about ongoing research and experimental treatments. "In the News" provides readers with a critical view of popular reports that may (or may not) provide crucial insight into the treatment of certain medical conditions. All articles from 100-word definitions to 3,500-word overviews now feature bibliographies, and every bibliography has been updated to list the latest sources and editions. All articles also have revised cross-references. |
