Synopsis: National Service was a regime where Dukes mixed with Dustmen and were better for it. Young men were taken, often against their will, from the comfort of a family environment and thrust into military life and discipline. I was one, a true virgin soldier. My story meanders from my military training in Aldershot to my service in Germany. Humour is never far away. You will mile, as I did, at the funny and outrageous episodes that became part of my life. The Stage Hall joke became a reality when the sergeant major bawled, 'Get fell in!' This book is written to entertain you and at least cause a titter. The memories are true and accurate to the extent that my memory allows. It's an account that had to be shared. Those with military experience will identify with the behaviour of military personnel whose job was to convert a boy into a man. Others will find pleasure in a life they thought merely make-believe. From the Potteries to Germany and back. I think you will enjoy the ride. Most people know that Army talk contains a generous sprinkling of expletives. I have deliberately toned down the language in order to leave it to the reader's imagination.
