Description: |
An abridgement of Sir William Muir's standard work 'The Life of Mahomet', containing the essential outlines of the Prophet's life and the foundation of Islam. |
Synopsis: |
This volume contains an abridgement of Sir William Muir's standard work on 'The Life of Mahomet', published in four volumes in 1858-61. In its condensed form the work contains the essential outlines of the Prophet's life and a short account of the foundation and later course of his religion. For the student of Islam the book remains a valuable source of reference in spite of the century which has passed since its original publication. Historically it is an important link in the development of the theological writings on the Islamic faith. Sir William Muir (1819-1905) was Lieutenant-Governor of North-West Provinces in India and founded Muir College and University at Alllahabad. His numerous published works on Islamic and Middle Eastern subjects include 'Annals of the Early Caliphate' and 'The Mameluke Dynasty of Egypt'. |
