Synopsis: |
When Philip Clarke and his mother decided to give up their family farm in Norfolk, they moved to a new home with a good-sized garden. Here, he decided, they would grow everything 100 per cent organically. These were pioneering days - it was 1969 - but he had already begun to subscribe to an American organic gardening magazine. To gain further knowledge, he took a job as assistant manager at a Norwich garden centre. Then, not content with his own garden, Philip Clarke became a gardener at one stately home, and, with more experience, head gardener at another - Wolterton Hall, seat of the Walpole family, who include Admiral Lord Nelson among their forebears. An Organic Gardener's Experiences is the result of over 40 years' experience in his own and other people's gardens. This is gardening tips - and a lot of solid information - interspersed with personal anecdotes. Not only does Philip Clarke give sound advice on all aspects of gardening - from preparing the soil to choosing suitable plants - from potatoes to roses - and planting and maintaining them, he provides a fascinating insight into a rewarding and healthy way of life. |
