Synopsis: |
Incredibly, Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936) wrote "Plain Tales From The Hills", with their astute and vigorous observations of the British in India before reaching the age of 22! They are presented here in the same order as they appeared in the "Civil and Military Gazette" for whom he worked as a journalist in the 1880s. Although written over one hundred years ago, Kipling's genius as a storyteller, the raciness of his narrative and the humour and vitality of the characters contribute to ensuring that these stories are as timeless as India itself. This is a marvellous selection of tales, full of fun, passion, pathos and mystery that will catch the imagination of a modern audience as they did when they first appeared in book form in 1888 and made their author famous throughout the world! |
